Dario Kukić was born in 1971 in Zagreb, Croatia. In 1990 he graduated high school with the animated film Kuglana made in Zagreb Film studios. In 1991, he began working at the animation studio Croatia Film on Čudnovate zgode šegrta Hlapića. He provides animation work for other Croatia Film project (movies, advertisements, music videos, Animafest opening titles, etc.). At Zagreb Film he worked on films such as Povratak profesora Baltazara, Lajavac, Glupača, Vremeplov and others.
In addition to animation, he draws comics and works in illustration. His comics are published in Croatian children’s magazines (Smib, Prvi izbor), daily papers (Jutarnji list, Večernji list, Slobodna Dalmacija), comics magazines (Q, Patak, Bruh, Kvadrat, Endem) and youth magazines (Homo Volans, Arkzin, Nomad, Studentski list).
He mainly does illustrations for textbooks and children’s magazines (Smib, First Choice, Zvrk, Modra lasta) and frequently collaborates with Školska knjiga, Profil, Alfa, Mozaik knjiga, Znanje and other publishing houses. He illustrated numerous children’s picture books, such as Dječji sportovi, Reumatični kišobran, Leteći glasovir, Kućni ljubimci, Monikino veliko putovanje and a series of educational-ecological picture books Spasimo Zemlju (Save the Earth). He also illustrated children’s books such as Blizanke, Tko vjeruje u rode još, Mrvice iz dnevnog boravka, Tajna tihe uvale, Smogovci and others.
He was the scriptwriter for the comics Fist Cosmetic, Professor Svjetlan and Señor. He is the author of a comic book for adults Ništa novo (Nothing New) and a member of the Croatian Association of Independent Artists.
